Dons stay composed through rain, sink Chargers

Santa Barbara’s Shane Lebow and Jack Perry sank birdie putts on the 18th hole to card even-par 71s on a rainy Tuesday at Montecito Country Club, leading a pack of Dons at or near par in a 362-420 rout of Dos Pueblos.

Dons Mason Field and Ray Gerow recorded one-over rounds and Mickey Kirby carded a season-low 76 for Channel League-leading Santa Barbara (7-1, 4-0).

“It’s not our season best but it was a really good round because of the weather,” explained Dons head coach James Bedard. “The guys didn’t lose focus.”

John Baur, who came in with an 81, still came in in style with a eagle on 18, holing a shot from 80 yards out.

The Chargers, now 1-3 after the first round of league play, were led by Carson Curtis’ 77. Alex Kim was next at 84.
