WSC-leading Pirates don’t break for Vaqs

SBCC won six more singles games than it did in the first meeting with Ventura but the Pirates still posted a 9-0 men’s tennis victory on Thursday. The visiting Vaqueros fell to 5-4 with one WSC match remaining at Hancock on Friday.

Santa Barbara boosted its win total from 12 to 18 singles games the rematch with the defending state champions, who have swept every WSC opponent this season. Ventura is 10-1 and 8-0 in conference.

“The guys played better than last time but it’s tough because Ventura is Ventura,” said assistant coach Ryan Stefani.
