Vaqueros turn around to rout Hancock

Playing its second match in 24 hours didn’t bother the SBCC men’s tennis team as it took care of Hancock 8-1 on Friday in Santa Maria. The Vaqueros finished with a 6-4 record and have an outside shot at a playoff berth, according to coach Don Lowry.

“We’re peaking at the right time,” he noted. “We let some guys rest today like our No. 1 Ryan Sweeney and Alex Zazove (who only played doubles).”

The only loss came at No. 2 singles when Antonio Rodrigues had to retire due to elbow tendinitis, trailing 2-1 in the first set.

The Vaqueros return to action on Friday against Grossmont at the Saddleback Tournament.
