Vaqueros run scoreless streak to three games, 8-0

Angela Ayala held SBCC to seven singles on Thursday in an 8-0 WSC women’s softball victory that was shortened to six innings by the run rule.

It was the third straight shutout for the visiting Vaqueros (6-17, 4-9). Second-place Ventura improves to 17-12 and 11-4.

“Their pitcher threw everything outside and we kept trying to pull it,” said coach Paula Congleton. “That led to a lot of groundouts to third and the pitcher. We’ve got to get our bats going for this weekend.”

SBCC will host the eight-team Bash at the Beach Tournament. On Saturday, the Vaqueros will take on Santa Ana (noon) and Saddleback (4 p.m.), followed by Sunday games against Golden West (11 a.m.) and El Camino (3 p.m.).
