Thornton, Warriors pound Saints, 19-2

Carpinteria wasn’t shy at the plate on Wednesday afternoon, making plenty of noise from the batter’s box in a 19-2 trouncing of visiting Santa Clara.

The Warriors inflicted much of their damage in a 13-run fourth inning when 19 batters came to bat. Nathan Saito came through with the biggest blow of the inning, a three-run home run that was his second of the game.

Kyle Geary led Carpinteria with five hits in six at-bats. Geary scored four times and added an RBI. 

Carpinteria head coach Pat Cooney siad his big star of the day was starting pitcher Rob Thornton, who got the win by pitching six innings while allowing only two hits and striking out six. Both Santa Clara runs were unearned.

The junior also knocked in four runs while going 3-for 4 at the plate. 

With the victory, the Warriors improve to 2-3 on the season and face Santa Clara (0-3) again in their next game on Friday, this time at the Saints’ diamond.
