Singles side gets it done for Vaqueros

With a tough loss to Glendale still fresh in its memory, the SBCC men’s tennis team bounced back with a 7-2 WSC win over Bakersfield on Tuesday at Pershing Park.

The Vaqueros (5-3, 5-3) went 5-1 in singles, led by wins from their four top players — Ryan Sweeney, Elliot Markowitz, Alez Zazove and Antonio Rodrigues, who dominated the last set of a three-set victory (2-6, 7-5, 6-1).

“The loss to Glendale (by a 5-4 count) took a lot out of us,” said coach Don Lowry. “It was good to see us come out in good spirits. We gave a couple of guys a chance to play No. 3 doubles (Maurice Cohen and Andrew Sokolsky) because they’re been working hard all year.”

SBCC plays at WSC leader Ventura on Thursday.
