Runs keep coming in Rams’ 24-0 win

The Cate baseball team was able to use all 17 players in uniform to get ready for Wednesday’s Condor League opener, thanks to a 24-0 thrashing of Santa Maria’s Valley Christian on Saturday.

The Rams collected 25 hits in the five innings before the game was called, including five alone from leadoff man Michael Moya. Jackson Mauza banged a home run and two doubles on the day and Michael McMahon and Nathan Vice also posted three hits each.

“I was pleased with the way that our team stayed focused for the whole game,” said head coach Ben Soto.

“I give credit to Santa Maria, who played hard with the young team that they have. While talking with their coach before the game, he informed me that they only have one senior, and that this was their 3rd game in one week. They were a little thin on pitching but they never quit and I was impressed with their effort.”

Cate’s Josh Han made his mark, collecting a two-run single in his first varsity at-bat.

McMahon, Moya and John Warren combined to pitch a three-hit shutout.

Wednesday’s league opener is a home game against Ojai Valley School. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
