Perry’s 66 puts Dons right behind Westlake

Santa Barbara’s Jack Perry turned in a 66 on Tuesday at Los Robles golf course in Thousand Oaks to lead the Dons boys golf team to a second place finish at a four-team meet.

Westlake’s Brandon Hagy earned medalist honors with a 5-under 65 to help Westlake edge the Dons in the team competition 364-369. Newbury Park was third with a 416 and Simi Valley recorded a 426.

All five Santa Barbara scorers broke 80. Mason Field followed Perry with a 73 and Shane Lebow was not far behind at 74. Ray Gerow and John Baur posted a 77 and 79, respectively.

Perry’s round was a steady one. The junior posted only one bogey and brought his score down with five birdies.

“It was a short course but definitely challenging,” noted Dons head coach James Bedard, adding that he thought Westlake to be one of the best teams in all of California.

Santa Barbara starts Channel League play on Thursday as it hosts crosstown rival San Marcos at Montecito Country Club. The first group tees off at 1 p.m.
