Owls happy to be playing despite 17-7 loss

With lacrosse and volleyball going on and a tiny student body, Laguna Blanca was happy just to get nine on the field for Wednesday’s baseball season-opener, a 17-7 loss to visiting Ojai Valley School.

“Fielding a team was a good success for us today,” said coach Daniel Boswell.

Despite the loss, the Owls had plenty of promising moments to build upon. Michael Bremner pitched four solid innings as the starter before the visitors scored four runs in a 3-error fifth inning. Boswell also said that Michael’s brother, Chris, did a nice job behind the dish.

Laguna shortstop Dane Rios and third baseman Willie Chotzen-Freund made a highlight-reel defensive play in the fifth inning, as Rios extended to stop a grounder from getting through, the tossed it to Chotzen-Freund for a bare-handed tag of the runner.

“We’re trying to stay focused on our fundamentals and play the game as routinely as possible right now,” said Boswell.
