Ekola and Grimes go 2-1 but Bishop falls 12-6

Jordan Ekola and Scott Grimes each went 2-1 as the Bishop Diego boys tennis team went 5-4 in singles play but ended up with a 12-6 loss at the hands of visiting Nordhoff on Wednesday at the Municipal Tennis Courts.

“We’re pretty solid with our singles, and we’re showing improvement every match,” said coach Ray “Slash” Vazquez of his young team, which includes only three seniors.

Nick Mathis and Sean Strathford-Jones picked up the Cardinals’ only set win in doubles play. Bishop Diego, now 1-4, opens up Frontier League play against St. Bonaventure Thursday.
