The Dos Pueblos softball team took a lead into the sixth inning but couldn’t hold on against Ventura in a 4-1 Channel League opening loss to visiting Ventura.
Shelli Sibbert gave the Chargers an initial lead in the fourth inning by leading off the inning with a triple and later scoring on a fielder’s choice.
But the Cougars broke through in the sixth with four runs to take control.
The Chargers managed only two hits on the day in support of starting pitcher Hannah Harris, who tossed five shutout innings before Ventura’s big inning.
Dos Pueblos will have its next chance to break out on Tuesday against Buena.
