Cavalier, Acevedo cancel out Nordhoff

San Marcos’ Pat Cavalier didn’t do Nordhoff’s baseball team any favors on Tuesday, as the starting pitcher limited the Rangers to a single unearned run in a 5-1 Royals victory.

Cavalier’s complete-game win brings the Royals back to .500 at 5-5 on the season. The senior right-hander fanned five Rangers while throwing only 71 pitches in seven innings of work.

“He was in complete command tonight,” observed San Marcos head coach Rob Crawford. “He was working from ahead all the time, very efficient.”

Victor Acevedo lifted the Royals at the plate, being responsible for all five San Marcos runs. The senior shortstop was 3-for-3 at the plate including a double and a home run. He scored three runs and knocked in the other two.

Nick Stahopolous tallied a pair of RBIs himself, the first on an RBI single in the first inning to score Acevedo. Landon Boneck scored the Royals’ first run on Acevedo’s run-scoring single up the middle after Boneck had led off the game with a double.

San Marcos (5-5, 0-1) returns to league play on Friday with a rivalry game against Dos Pueblos.
