The San Marcos girls water polo team fit in two games on Thursday at the Bonita Tournament, taking down Arroyo Valley 13-6 before falling to Los Osos 13-9 in the second game.
In the victory, Zoe Kirker led the way with four goals and five steals. Kristen Beifuss posted her first multi-score game of the season and coach Brian Roth complimented her for a great all-around game.
Los Osos, the No. 1 team in Division V, proved too tough a test. Roth credited Los Osos with being the real deal and was pleased with his team’s showing despite the loss.
“We played a really smart, heads-up game,” he said.
Jade Fitzgerald had a team-high six goals while Brittny Hummel grabbed five steals and scored once.
“It was the best defensive game I’ve seen her play,” Roth said of Hummel, who was up against the Grizzlies’ “powerful” 2-meter forwards.
Rose Koper, Parinda Sukavivatanachai and Flo Chardon all had two goals on the day.
The Royals continue tourney play on Friday starting with a 6 p.m. faceoff against Cerritos.
