Royals drop 4-0 decision to No. 2 Ventura

Coach Brian Eisen and the San Marcos boys soccer team would like to just forget about Thursday’s game against Ventura.

Missing captain Alvaro Garcia, who took a hard hit in Tuesday’s Santa Barbara game and lost a tooth in the process, as well as another starter due to a stomach virus, the Royals gave up three goals to the No. 2 Cougars in the first half and ended up losing 4-0.

Ventura scored two goals in the first 10 minutes. San Marcos had a golden opportunity for a goal with just a few minutes left in the half, but failed to convert as the Cougars took the ball back and sneaked in their third before the whistle.

“They’re a great team,” said Eisen. “Ultimately, my halftime speech was that I wanted them to forget about winning the game and try to win the second half. It was just one of those days.”

San Marcos (6-9-4, 0-3-1) also had two players choose to leave the team earlier in the week, but there’s no time for distractions with a must-win matchup against Buena coming up on Tuesday.
