UCSB’s Milos Golic
Sophomore Milos Golic was selected as a First Team All-American while senior Miles Price earned Honorable Mention All-American accolades the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced on Friday. Golic is the first Gaucho to earn First Team All-American honors since John Anderson did in 1985.
Golic, a utility player, led UCSB with his 82 goals scored in the fall and was the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation leader for goals per game with an average of 3.04. Additionally, Golic led UCSB with 21 assists and 19 steals.
His 82 goals are the most scored in a single season by a UCSB player since Pete Zamoyski tallied 89 goals in 1990. In fact, his single season total ranks as the fifth highest in Gaucho history. Golic’s 135 career goals are tied as the 13th most amongst all-time UCSB career scoring leaders.
In addition to his First Team All-American honors, Golic was also named First Team All-MPSF and also earned Academic All-MPSF honors. In 2007, he was named the MPSF Newcomer of the Year and was selected as an Honorable Mention All-American.
Price’s All-American nod is the first for the senior. This past fall, he finished the season second on the team with 38 goals scored and was also tied 16th amongst MPSF players with an average of 1.41 goals per game. Additionally, Price was tied second on the team with 12 steals. He ended his four-year career tied with Golic on the Gaucho all-time career goals list with 135. Price also earned All-MPSF Third Team acclaim at the conclusion of the season.
These awards mark the first time since the 1982 and 1983 seasons that UCSB has had multiple All-Americans during back-to-back seasons. In 2007, Golic and Ross Sinclair earned All-American accolades. In all, head coach Wolf Wigo has coached three players to five All-American honors in his four seasons at the helm of the program.
UCSB concluded the 2008 season with a 17-11 overall record, marking its third winning season under Wigo’s leadership. The Gauchos went 4-4 in MPSF play, finishing fifth in the regular season league standings. They also took fifth-place at the conference tournament and ended the year with a No. 6 national ranking.
