Fitzgerald’s double-digit scoring helps Royals split

San Marcos’ Jade Fitzgerald reached double digits in scoring for the Royals on Saturday, tallying 10 goals in a win over Thousand Oaks and a defeat to Tesoro later in the day.

Fitzgerald scored five in each matchup, helping the Royals beat the Lancers 13-7 before they fell to a tough Tesoro squad 11-8.

San Marcos goalkeeper Autumn Lovett recorded 26 saves in the two games, and scored twice against Thousand Oaks when the Lancers brought an extra attacker into the field.

Parinda Sukavivatanachai scored twice and had two assists in what head coach Brian Roth called “one of her best games of the season.”

Tesoro took advantage of three San Marcos ejections in the first quarter to jump out to a 4-1 lead.

“We played them really evenly the rest of the way,” said Roth.

Rose Koper was Roth’s standout in the second match, scoring on two outside shots while playing every minute of the game.

San Marcos is now 6-7 on the season and returns to Channel League play with a contest against Buena on Tuesday.
