Bulldogs fend off Royal comeback on home court

A steal and 3-pointer by Nick Marquez had the San Marcos boys basketball team within three points with 19 seconds left on Friday, but host Buena held on to hand the Royals a 54-49 loss.

The score was tied at 22 at halftime, but the first eight fouls committed in the second have were on San Marcos, and the Bulldogs capitalized by hitting 14 of 20 free throws after the break.

JP Dodson scored six points off the bench to lead a San Marcos comeback that was capped with Marquez’s 3-pointer, but it wasn’t to be.

Marquez scored 19 points and Chris Vines finished with 11 and nine boards.
