Vickers, Chargers bad hosts to Idaho team

Robert Vickers had a season-high 22 points and a crucial steal that he took the length of the floor and completed a 3-point play to help clinch Dos Pueblos’ 68-59 victory over Coueur d’Alene, a state-runner up from Idaho.

Coueur d’Alene, who plays Mira Costa and El Segundo on a three-game trip, can shoot the long ball and hit nine in the game, but Dos Pueblos shifted to a 3-2 zone in the second half, eliminating many of the first half’s open looks.

Vickers put together a complete game, adding seven rebounds, four assists and two steals to his point total. Malik Heptot recorded a double-double, Saturday’s combination being 14 and 14.

Evan Munoz returned after three games out with a knee injury. The guard was the third Charger in double figures with 12 points. Head coach Joe Zamora said Gabriel Rodriguez came through with senior leadership when the team needed it.

The Chargers improve to 5-4. They have a day of rest on Sunday before having an early week back-to-back with Oxnard on Monday and Righetti on Tuesday.
