Strong second half puts Bishop over Thacher

The Bishop Diego Cardinals gave their spectators quite a game to watch with back-to-back second-half goals and good teamwork that resulted in a 3-1 win over Thacher on Friday.

Within 15 minutes of the first half Bishop was the first to make a goal with a diagonal shot just barely inside the left post. Thacher took notice and proceeded to tie up the game by taking advantage of a failed cleared shot from the Cardinal defenders.

Three minutes after Thacher scored, Bishop quickly responded.

Sophomore Michael Morando, beautifully assisted a goal to teammate Jeff Mandrell who headed the ball into the back of the net keeping the Cardinals ahead at 2-1.

Later, Bishop midfielder Ray Nowak took on several opposing defenders and got through successfully with a nailed shot on the ground ending the game in a well earned win for the Cardinals.

“I am happy for the guys, the victory was a result of 11 guys on the field working hard and playing unselfishly – they should be proud of themselves after this game,” Bishop coach Jesus Landeros concluded.
