Santa Barbara soccer keeps steamrolling

The Santa Barbara Dons boys soccer team is racking up victories in intimidating fashion, taking two more on Monday at the South Torrance Tournament to reach Tuesday’s final against Loyola.

The Dons (12-0) defeated Harvard-Westlake 3-0 in the quarterfinals before moving on to take out the host South Torrance 3-1 in the semifinal.

“It wasn’t very pretty but we found a way to win,” said Dons head coach Todd Heil, who described the play as “messy” at times because of the muddy playing surface.

Christian Pardo and Jesse Gonzalez had it going together against Harvard-Westlake, connecting for two goals before Marcos Lopez took a cross from Justin Jimenez to finish off the Wolverines.

Gonzalez now has a team-high nine goals.

Santa Barbara keeper Emmanuel Angulo recorded his ninth clean sheet against Westlake and added an assist in the semifinal.

Against South Torrance, it was the Peter Aguilar show. Aguilar put the Dons on the board first and senior midfielder Daniel Miranda gave Santa Barbara a two-goal cushion in the 38th minute.

After Torrance scored to make things interesting, Aguilar got his second to put it out of reach.
