Royals beat traffic, not Westminster

In trying to take a positive out of Monday’s 1-0 loss to Westminster in the Marina Tournament, San Marcos boys soccer coach Brian Eisen had to look elsewhere but the field.

“Well, there was no traffic going there or coming back,” he said before settling down for a much-needed nap (they left Santa Barbara for Huntington Beach at 4:30 a.m.).

The Royals controlled the match and had “a lot more scoring opportunities” according to Eisen, but they couldn’t convert and instead allowed a rebound goal in the 15th minute.

The Royals will hit the practice field to work out as many kinks as possible before next Tuesday’s game against Nordhoff, which is followed by a league-opening match against Buena on Thursday.

Eisen plans to do some fine tuning in practice, but also noted that the team’s starting lineup could change considerably.

“With a record like 4-7-3, it’s fair to say nobody’s earned anything,” he said.
