Muñoz drains eight treys for DP

Evan Muñoz caught fire on Tuesday, draining eight 3-pointers and racking up 30 points in the Dos Pueblos boys basketball team’s 51-38 win over Village Christian on the opening day of the Oak Park Tournament.

“He wasn’t forcing the issue,” said coach Joe Zamora. “He was just feeling his stroke and his teammates knew that he was hitting everything so they got him the ball.”

The Crusaders (3-2) went to a box-and-1 defense to try and slow the DP perimeter game to no avail.

Malik Heptot had only four points on the night, but it’s because he was busy with Crusader center Bak Bak, a 6-foot-10 star headed to Cal next year. Heptot grabbed nine rebounds held Bak to 20 points.

Robert Vickers also contributed with 13 rebounds and four assists.

“It wasn’t just Evan’s scoring. It was the other things that made it a real team victory. Everyone worked really hard,” said Zamora.

DP improved to 2-3 on the season.
