Graham has huge game for No. 20 Vaqs

VISALIA — Nikki Graham scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Thursday night as No. 20 SBCC downed Reedly 88-75 in the opening round of the Tom Gilchrist Invitational women’s basketball tournament at El Diamante High.

Katie Randall had 20 points and nine boards for the Vaqueros (7-3), who won their second straight and fourth in five outings. Jen Ju added eight points and six assists off the bench for SBCC, which dominated the rebound battle, 65-28.

Graham, a 5-11 sophomore, hit 9-of-11 from the field.

“We played really well,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “We only had 22 turnovers against their 1-2-2 press.”

The Vaqueros, who led 51-41 at halftime, got solid contributions from Daniell Ariss (6 pts., 5 rebs.) and Francesca DeAngelis and Bailey Huff (7 rebounds apiece).

SBCC will take on the state’s No. 2-ranked squad, Mt. San Antonio, on Friday at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the 16-team tourney, hosted by Sequoias.
