DP takes third place in Oak Park tourney

Cameron Nelson came off the bench and sparked the Dos Pueblos boys basketball team out of a 27-22 halftime deficit to beat Santa Paula 53-44 to take third place in the Oak Park Tournament.

The Chargers (4-4) outscored the Cardinals 17-6 in the third quarter, and Nelson had eight points in the contest.

Robert Vickers scored 15 points with five steals and nine rebounds in the game, and was named to the All-Tournament team afterwards.

“It was a very scrappy game,” said DP coach Joe Zamora. “At first we were a little erratic offensively, but Cameron Nelson came in and just got us going.”

Malik Heptot added 13 points for the Chargers, who also got strong rebounding from Jay Laranin.
