Dons improve to 14-2 with sixth straight win

The Santa Barbara girls basketball team won its sixth consecutive decision on Monday, defeating Paso Robles 64-51 at the Righetti Tournament to finish the tourney with four wins and no losses.

Rebecca Griffin led the Dons with 20 points. The guard knocked down five shots from long range and added five assists and three steals to her point total.

Senior Geena Boscacci returned from an ankle sprain and scored eight points, as did teammates Brandi Blackwell and Jessica Ramirez. Blackwell also had a team-high 12 rebounds and four blocks and matched Griffin’s five assists. Tess Emerson contributed nine points.

Santa Barbara jumped out of the gates, taking an 18-6 lead after the first quarter and reached halftime with a comfortable 19-point lead that Paso cut into in the second half, but never seriously threatened to come all the way back.

The Dons (14-2) open up Channel League play against a strong Ventura team on Jan. 8 but first have a tilt with Rio Mesa next Monday. Oaks Christian is also on next week’s schedule, making for a busy start to the New Year .
