Coach Mark Walsh said that his young Santa Barbara High girls water polo team had the best half it’s played all year, but eventually lost to traditional-powerhouse Coronado 8-6 in the Santa Margarita Extravaganza.
Coronado has already beaten Newport Beach, one of the state’s best teams, this season, making the fact that the Dons were only down 3-1 at the break impressive.
The Islanders, however, scored three goals in less than three minutes at the end of the third and start of the fourth, and a late three-goal rally by the Dons wasn’t enough.
The Dons will have an alumni game on December 27th which will feature Olympians Kami Craig and Thalia Munroe.
