Chargers stopped by 1 in high-scoring affair

The Dos Pueblos girls basketball team ran out of clock on Tuesday night, rallying from a 13-point deficit to nearly defeat Righetti 76-75 in Santa Maria.

The Chargers (5-4) were led in scoring by freshman gaurd Jessica Escalante with 20 points. Senior Meghan Murphy recorded a double-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds. Sara Crane just missed one with nine points and eight rebounds. Jasmine Mata notched a season-high 15 points to go with three rebounds.

Dos Pueblos was down seven in the last minute before a 3-point play and a 3-pointer at the buzzer brought the Chargers to within one but without any time on the clock.

DP head coach Maynard Pilapil cited a bevy of turnovers (21) for his team’s ill fate.

The Chargers begin this weekend’s Tournament of Champions in their own gym on Friday at 3 p.m. against St. Bonaventure.
