Chargers schooled by Agoura

Championship-game bound Agoura relegated Dos Pueblos to the third-place game on Friday afternoon with an 80-52 defeat at the Thunderhut in the Gold Coast Tournament.

Senior Meghan Murphy her second straight big day in the tournament, scoring 20 points to go with 18 rebounds. Sara Sessler grabbed 10 and Sara Crane 15 more rebounds as the Chargers crashed the boards but let go of 24 turnovers that got the better of the young team.

That and 13 Agoura 3-pointers. One player, junior Sasha Borenstein, drained seven on her own and finished with 23 points. 

Dos Pueblos freshman Jessica Escalante scored 13 points and is averaging 18 points during the tournament.

“They’re just an extremely overall good shooting team and they were able to cause 24 turnovers,” said DP head coach Maynard Pilapil, whose team falls to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the tournament.

The Chargers face Rio Mesa in the 5:30 p.m. third-place game.
