Sami Hill’s 18 saves were not one too many for the Dos Pueblos girls water polo team in a 6-5 victory over Coronado on Monday.
“Sami was an absolute wall in the first half,” said DP head coach Danelle Little, whose team improves to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Channel League.
The Chargers, ranked No. 3 in Division I, have now won six straight since a season-opening loss to No. 2 Corona del Mar. The win was a warmup for this year’s Holiday Cup, starting on Tuesday in Orange County. Dos Pueblos has Tustin in its opener.
Against Coronado, the Chargers opened up a 6-1 first-half lead behind goals from Tiera Schroeder (2), Kodi Hill (2), Amanda Redfern and Alex Hill. Alex Hill also forced four ejections, and Little said most of the Charger scores came on man-up situations or counterattacks.
