Cardinals fly over Toads for consolation title

All-Tournament selection Janelle Kohler scored 20 points and the Bishpo Diego girls basketball team tallied a season-high 13 assists as the Cardinals stomped the Thacher Toads 56-17 in Saturday’s consolation championship game at the Fillmore Tournament.

Coach Jeff Burich said the Jennifer Jimenez’s senior leadership was impressive in the game, and that junior Ariel Perez was very effective running the offense at point guard. Jimenez finished with 14 points on the game.

“I think these last two wins have really given us some confidence heading into our tournament with Laguna Blanca,” said Burich.

The Cardinals (2-2) are the defending champions in the Laguna-Bishop Tourney, which is set for this week.
