Vaqs’ shooting goes cold against Ventura

OXNARD — Freshman David Lane scored a season-best 24 points on Saturday but it wasn’t enough for SBCC, which fell to Ventura 97-77 in the semifinals of the Oxnard Condor Classic.

Mark Keeten added 21 points for the Vaqueros (3-6), who shot 36 percent for the game and trailed 48-32 at halftime. Richard Somdah had seven rebounds.

“They got up early and our defense was very poor,” said SBCC coach Morris Hodges. “We gave up too many second-shot opportunities.”

The Vaqueros will take on Oxnard or San Bernardino Valley in today’s third-place game at 3 p.m.
