SBCC women run up to 22nd

BAKERSFIELD — The SBCC women’s cross country team turned in its fastest time of the year by nearly three minutes to place 22nd in the Southern Cal Championships on Friday at Kern County Park.

Paige Colijn was the top Vaquero finisher, placing 81st out of 196 runners in the 5k race in 20:32. She qualified for the State Finals but due to a prior commitment, she won’t make the trip to Fresno in two weeks.

Amber Siddiqi (94th, 20:59), Ivana Sanchez (113th, 21:30) and Sarah Gustavsson (147th, 22:15) all recorded season bests for the Vaqueros.

“I was happy to see us finish on such a high note,” said SBCC coach Scott Fickerson. “Obviously, I would have liked to move on to state, but the girls gave it all they had and I am proud of all we accomplished.”

SBCC’s Conner Mellon and Matt Little both competed as individuals in the men’s four-mile race and both lowered their season-best times by a minute. Mellon finished 115th in 22:09 and Little was 159th in 22:59.

San Bernardino took the men’s title while Glendale won the women’s race.
