Chargers advance on tiebreaker

For the second time in three years, Dos Pueblos and Esperanza battled to a 9-9 tie in the CIF Division II girls tennis playoffs. Different year, same result as the Chargers took the tiebreaker 86-66 to advance to the second round.

Esperanza was led by girls 18s No. 38 Bianca Modoc, who was undefeated on the day. Esperanza only managed one other singles set against Lauren Stratman, Erica Cano and Hayley Edwards.

Dos Pueblos gained a 4-2 advantage after the first round of sets but Esperanza rallied in the second round as wins from Stratman and the doubles team of Amy Sagraves and Amy Logan kept the Chargers from falling behind.

Most of DP’s lost sets were close, however, and the Chargers easily won the tiebreaker after splitting the last round 3-3.
