Spencer Joy scored five goals, including the game-winner in sudden-death overtime, as the Carpinteria boys water polo team picked up an 11-10 win Wednesday against host Villanova Prep.
“We kind of went in thinking it would be an easy one, but we wound up in a dogfight,” said Warriors coach Rob Locke, who praised the improvement in the Wildcats’ program.
Carpinteria trailed 6-5 heading into the final period, and the score was knotted at nine apiece when regulation ended. It was 10-10 after two overtimes, which led to Joy’s sudden-death winner.
The Warriors are now 5-4 overall after an 0-4 start, and Wednesday’s victory puts them at 1-0 in Tri-Valley League competition.
