DP makes it 15-straight league titles

The Dos Pueblos girls golf team has done it again.

The Chargers clinched the Channel League title outright on Thursday, comfortably defeating their closest league competition, the Santa Barbara Dons, at Montecito Country Club by a score of 217-254.

Nicole Bullemer medaled for Dos Pueblos, which has won 15-straight league titles. Her 39 was just three-over par at the difficult Montecito course. Bullemer said she started off strong but lost some strokes near the end once the heat and fatigue began to creep up. Even still, Bullemer’s mark was the lowest of the season at Montecito.

Meanwhile, Santa Barbara’s Haley True’s 44 was a season-low at her home course.

“Maybe I should be sick more,” joked True, who’s been feeling poorly all week. She was medalist for the Dons on Tuesday with another 44 at Santa Barbara Golf Club against San Marcos.

Dos Pueblos’ Emily Fox, who shot a 43, and Santa Barbara freshman Olivia Fanaro, with a 47, joined True and Bullemer in the first group.

The four will lead their teams over the next few weeks during postseason play. While team competition doesn’t take place until November, individual play starts this Tuesday at Soule Park in Ojai.

In contrast to DP’s success, it’s the first time the Dons’ team has reached the playoffs.

The Chargers all scored under 50. Freshman Vanesa Villa matched Fox’s 43, and Anna Samson’s 45 and Sami Hill’s 47 weren’t far off pace.

The Chargers wrapped up another undefeated league season at 8-0. The Dons, at 6-2, finished their best season in program history.
