Dons clinch share of 27th straight title

Santa Barbara High’s girls tennis team clinched at least a share of its 27th consecutive Channel League title on Tuesday by dispatching San Marcos 11-7.

“No one wants to be the one that ends that streak,” said coach Steve Geremia.

Santa Barbara (11-1, 7-0) was dominant in doubles sets, with the standout teams of Hannah Grokenberger-Kinzie McKeown and April Ludwick-Zoe Miller combining to go 6-0 on the afternoon.

No. 1 Dons singles player Rachel Decker-Sadowski played a set but called it a day after that due to a nagging injury. Geremia said the junior will likely not play against DP in the season finale.

The Royals took advantage, with Caitlin Mannix going 3-0 and older-sister Julian going 2-1.

“The Mannix sisters really played well,” said Geremia, who said that despite losing sets to the sisters, Dons Aurora Garrison and Haley Hranicky-Galitzer put in notable efforts.
