Ian Kistler scored 18 goals over four games as the Dos Pueblos boys water polo team picked up its first-ever varsity tournament win under coach Chris Parrish at the Tustin tourney this weekend.
Kistler was named the weekend’s MVP and Derek Shoemaker made the all-tournament team.
“I was really impressed with our guys coming in and pulling this off, especially because of how young we are,” said Parrish.
The Chargers (20-4) beat Tesoro 14-8 in the title match. Loren Drewisch scored a pair of goals in the opening 30 seconds and DP stormed out to a sizable lead. But Tesoro battled back to make it a 10-8 Charger lead heading into the final period. The eventual-champions scored four unanswered and went on to win it.
Parrish also highlighted the play of backup goalie Isaiah Haas, who played well in three matches while splitting time with Kyle Wollert.
To get to the finals, the Chargers beat Beckman 14-2, Costa Mesa 20-6 and University City High of San Diego 14-3.
