Ashton proud despite road loss

Coach Jeff Ashton said he wishes the season wasn’t in the home stretch after Thursday’s 6-2 road loss to Buena.

“I wish that the season was twice as long as our guys are continuing to improve,” he said. “Because of our relative inexperience the learning curve for these guys is really steep. I was really proud of how we played today.”

Travis Johnson had a goal with 12 saves and Sam Boysel added the visitors’ other score. The San Marcos defense allowed only three goals in 6-on-6 situations, but the offense couldn;t get enough going to back it up.

The Royals play at DP on Thursday.
