SMHS spikers turn in a gem

Roger Kuntz has coached his daughter, Kristen, through four years as a starting setter at the varsity level, and he has never seen her play as well as she did on Thursday.

“I’ve never seen play like that, and as a team, this is the best bolleyball I’ve seen us play in three years at San Marcos,” said coach Kuntz.

Jenn Waddill pounded 15 kills as the Royals took out visiting Buena at the Thunderhut Thursday in a 24-26, 25-11, 25-11, 25-15 victory.

Flo Chardon had 12 kills, Grace Conner added six and Emma Campbell had 18 digs to go along with Kuntz’s 33 assists in the match.

“We had a great crowd. A lot of the football players showed up, and everything clicked all at one time, which was really fun,” said coach Kuntz. “It was a tremendous boost for our program and it was just really fun to play at such a high level.”

After being 0-2 about a week ago, San Marcos is now 7-3. Turnpike’s turnaround kids play in the Royal tournament this weekend before hosting DP on Tuesday night.
