Chargers win sloppy one

Ian Kistler became an example of just how physical water polo can be on Tuesday, sustaining a concussion from an elbow to the face in Dos Pueblos’ 6-5 win at Ventura.

“He got hit in the upper lip while playing defense and came out for a two-minute break,” said coach Chris Parrish. “He went back in and got hit again with an elbow and couldn’t remember what he was doing or where he was.”Kistler was taken to the hospital for tests.

The senior managed to score a precious goal in the defensive battle, which complemented two-goal performances by Chase Racich and Derek Shoemaker. Conner Cleary also scored while Kyle Wollert racked up five saves and six blocks.

The Chargers, however, only converted on two 6-on-5 opportunities.

“We played probably our worst water polo of the year, and we still came out on top against a team ranked only one spot below us, so I’m optimistic,” said Parrish, whose team is now 12-3, 1-0.

Next up for the Chargers is a home game against Buena on Tuesday.
