After a stalemate in the first quarter, the Carpinteria boys water polo team ran away with the game on the road against Nordhoff. Alan Chavez finished with six goals and the Warriors finished with a 15-4 victory in their first Tri-Valley League match of the season.
Carpinteria started slow and was not used to playing in a pool with a shallow end. The offense struggled while attacking in shallower water than they were accustomed to.
But after switching sides for the second quarter, the offense exploded with six goals and the Warriors led 8-3 at the half.
The defense also clamped down and allowed only two goals in the final three quarters.
It was a great defensive effort all the way around,” head coach Bryan Swarm said. “We had a lot of steals today.”
In addition to Chavez’s six goals, Cole Gill had three, and Thomas Fly, Ben O’Hara and Dylan Hathaway all had two each.
Goalie Jacob Pate was the backbone of the Warriors lockdown defense and finished with 14 saves.
Carpinteria (6-9 overall, 1-0 league) continues Tri-Valley Competition on Friday against Villanova.
