A panel of media members has picked the UCSB men’s basketball team to finish second in the Big West Conference in 2009-10. The same panel also named Gaucho sophomore Orlando Johnson to the preseason all-conference team. The Santa Barbara Soccer Club Girls Under 14 Team clinched their Silver Alpha League last weekend going 11-0 and securing the title with three games remaining. The win assured the team’s move up to Silver Elite status. The girls are currently on a 23-0 unbeaten streak, having not lost in league play over the last two seasons. Cassie Brooker was named the Big West Athlete of the Week in women's cross country after her performance at last weekend's Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational.Brooker completed the 5k course in 18:09.0 to take fourth place. The winner of the race was Zsofia Erdelyi of USC, who had a time of 17:36.0.
