There was plenty of playing time to go around on Friday night in Murchison Gymnasium where #17 Westmont Men’s Basketball romped its way to a 93-58 win over the Flames of Bethesda (0-4). All 15 Warriors saw action and 13 found their way into the scoring column on the stat sheet.

BOX SCORE

Junior guard Cory Blau saw just 13 minutes of play but led the Warriors with 13 points. Blau made five of six from the field including all three of his attempts from three-point range. Jerry Karczewski racked up 12 points while Sean Harman added 11 points and David Gunn rifled off 10. Sean McDonnell, who had eight points, led the Warriors in rebounding with nine boards.

The Warriors were up 7-6 early in the game when Blau nailed a three pointer to spark an 11-0 run and give Westmont an 18-6 lead. After Justine Latham hit a three for the Flames, Westmont scored the next eight to go up 26-9.

By halftime, all 15 Warriors had logged minutes on the floor and Westmont held a 52-27 lead.

Westmont’s largest lead (43 points) came with 7:25 remaining in regulation when Gunn drilled two free throws to give Westmont an 86-43 advantage.

The Warriors shot 53.2 percent from the floor (33 of 62) while holding the Flames to 42.9 percent (24 of 63). From three-point range, Westmont drained 14 of 34 attempts, led by Karczewski who connected on four of five.

The biggest difference, however, may have been Westmont’s dominance on the glass where they imposed a 48 to 26 advantage over Bethesda. Fourteen Warrior offensive rebounds led to 18 second chance points.

The game served as a tune-up for Tuesday’s Golden State Athletic Conference season opener. The Warriors will host the Lions of Vanguard in a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The women will tip off at 5:30 with the men following at 7:30 p.m.
