Carpinteria couldn’t hold on to a one-goal lead in the final seven minutes and ended up in a 2-2 draw with St. Bonaventure in a non-league girls soccer game.
The Warriors took a 2-1 lead when Alejandra Alvarez beat the St. Bonaventure goalkeeper to a long, high through ball and headed into the open goal.
St. Bonaventure controlled most of the possession in the first half, but the Seraphs scored only once.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, Kendra Meza, making her varsity debut for Carpinteria, tied the score.
St. Bonaventure capitalized on a poor clearance to knot the score at 2-2.
“We kept our heads up and had a few more chances in those final two minutes but just couldn’t put one away,” coach Charles Bryant said. “I am encouraged by our progress and know we will continue to get better as the players get used to playing with each other and understand their assignments more.
The Warriors (1-3-1) go on a holiday break and will return to action in January.
