A goal and an assist by Kylie Schmidt led Santa Barbara High past Calabasas on Saturday in a Westlake Showcase game, 2-0.
The Dons struck quickly, netting their first goal barely five minutes from the opening whistle. Gardenia Maya’s corner kick was delivered to the front of the goal where Schmidt knocked it in.
Maintaining pressure and winning the possession battle, the Dons added to their lead in the second half. Schmidt led Briana Rios onto a pass in full stride and Rios’ shot slid past the keeper and inside the opposite post.
Katherine Hawkes and Sydni Triguero shared time as goalie to share the clean sheet.
“It is nice to get our first W as well as have an opportunity to get playing time for all the girls. We are still trying to figure out our best line up and got a chance to move the girls around and try several different line ups,” reported Dons head coach Jill Wolf.
