A strong second half lifted Bishop Diego past Valley Christian Academy on Friday, 38-25, on the second day of the Bird Cage Classic hosted by the Cardinals.
The Cardinals were trailing at halftime but came together in the second half to pull out the victory. Veronica Morones came in off the bench and scored all six of her points in the second half to provide a spark. Summer Soto had a team-high 11 points for the game.
“Basically everyone that came into the game contributed for us so it was nice to see everybody play and everybody make a difference whether it was just a couple of minutes or a full half,” said Cardinals head coach Jeff Burich.
Bishop Diego (1-3) closes out its tournament on Saturday with two games. The morning game against Orcutt Academy is scheduled for 9 a.m. and then Thacher at 4:30 p.m.
