GBK: Melgoza’s 35 helps Dons stay unbeaten

Amber Melgoza tagged Camarillo for 35 points on Tuesday to lead Santa Barbara past the Scorpions 60-42 in a non-league game.

The Dons senior was 15 for 27 from the field and added four rebounds, three assists and four steals. Alondra Jimenez was Santa Barbara’s second-leading scorer with 13 points. Jimenez and Kimberly Gebhardt tallied six steals each.

Camarillo led into the second quarter until Santa Barbara turned up the pace and grabbed a 33-25 advantage at halftime. In the third quarter, a 12-2 run extended the Dons’ lead. Liliana Ponce played well while starting for Jada Howard, who was out with an illness.

Santa Barbara improves to 8-0 on the season ahead of the Dons’ annual Tournament of Champions that begins on Saturday.
