Amber Melgoza opened her senior season with a 28-point performance, and Santa Barbara High rolled to a 70-32 girls basketball win over Cabrillo on the first night of the Lompoc Tournament on Thursday.
The University of Washington-bound Melgoza grabbed six rebounds, had four assists and two steals to go along with her points.
Santa Barbara led 12-10 after the first quarter and blew the game open in the second quarter by outscoring Cabrillo 23-4.
Sophomore Cassandra Gordon played a solid game, with nine points, eight assists and three rebounds. Her defensive play drew the praise of coach Andrew Butcher.
Jada Howard added seven points for the Dons, who shot 48 percent for the game.
The Dons are back in action Friday against host Lompoc.
