Cate edged Bishop Diego 38-35 on Thursday night in the opening round of the Bird Cage Classic hosted by the Cardinals.
Kylie Koeper and Veronica Morones led the Cardinals in scoring with nine points each.
“I was very happy and pleased with how the kids played and with the energy they brought,” said Cardinals head coach Jeff Burich.
Bishop Diego (0-3) will meet Valley Christian Academy on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the tournament’s next round.
