Soccer player Alex Saucedo was honored as Santa Barbara High’s recipient of the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.
The award is presented to a high school junior student-athlete who demonstrates high character, always does the right thing whether the coach is present or not, respects his teammates, the opposition and the game itself.
“Alex is an incredible young man on and off the pitch,” Dons soccer coach Todd Heil said in a statement read by athletic director Joe Chenoweth. “He doesn’t just lead vocally, he leads by example in games and in training sessions.
“Off the pitch, Alex is just as reliable in the classroom and in the community,” Chenoweth continued. “In the classroom, he carries a 4.4 GPA. He helps the youth in the community as a volunteer soccer coach. The entire Santa Barbara soccer family is tremendously proud of Alex receiving the Phil Womble Award.”
